Description
The branches and trunk of this tree become wreathed in rosy lilac flowers in late spring, making a unique display, often followed by purple tinted seed pods from late summer onwards. Legend has it that this was the tree from which Judas Iscariot hanged himself, but the name may also derive from the commonplace sight of the tree in the hills of Judaea.
